Job Title: Manager – Injection Moulding

Reports to: Manufacturing Manager

Location: M&H Plastics, London Road, Beccles, Suffolk, NR34 8TS

Job Purpose:

To be responsible and accountable for the efficient running and continuous improvement of a production department as detailed in “Responsibilities” set out below.

Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for department personnel

Human Resources:

  • Undertaking manpower planning in all areas of unit, and ensuring all recruitment follows company procedure, liaising with HR Manager.
  • Monitoring performance of staff in the department, and identifying and arranging training and development plans/courses as required.
  • Retain all training and development records accurately.
  • Performance monitoring staff, liaising with HR Manager where required
  • Maintain discipline within the department, and undertaking disciplinary procedures as required, and in liaison with the HR Manager
  • Monitoring absence levels and dealing with any absence issues in line with company procedure and in liaison with HR Manager where necessary.
  • Accurate recording, management of and timely submission of payroll e.g. holidays, absences and time sheet

Production:

  • Monitoring and improving KPI’s
  • Monitor/control working practices
  • Work to ensure efficient tool changes are undertaken to continually improve OEE
  • Continuous monitoring of workloads and personal tasks across the department.
  • Implement, monitor and review good product quality processes
  • Complete monthly department production reports

Technical:

  • Address new business quotes, encompassing best practice and cost effective solutions, supporting individuals involved.
  • Efficient utilisation of tooling and machine to maximise OEE.
  • Support for sales and planning departments.
  • Support for design and tool room.
  • Oversee new product development control and reports
  • Continuous improvement of product repeatability & reliability.
  • Continuous improvement of machine efficiency.
  • On-going development/training of technical team in all aspects

Communication:

  • Active Communication in a reactive environment in all aspects to ensure effective communication between the production area and senior management, as well as other areas of the business (eg: planning, sales etc) to achieve a smooth running department.
  • Monthly meetings – shift supervisors and assistant manager and follow up minutes
  • Monthly meetings – day personnel and assistant manager and follow up minutes
  • Weekly department development and product project meetings
  • Address follow up action as required
  • Monthly department efficiency reports encompassing all aspects of the department

Health & Safety:

  • Ensure all department personnel are trained and understand H&S requirements in the department and where necessary across the site
  • Ensure all machine risk assessments are carried out and communicated to all staff
  • Ensure all personnel risk assessments are carried out, and communicated to all staff
  • Ensure all staff are trained and undertake correct manual handling techniques.
  • Ensure all C.O.S.H.H. checks are carried out and communicated to staff.
  • Ensure good housekeeping practices are maintained within the department at all times, with regular 6S monitoring being undertaken and issues timely followed up

Quality:

  • Monitoring controlling and reviewing working practices to ensure company quality targets are met

Budgeting:

  • Undertake effective manpower planning to minimise production personnel overtime costs
  • Monitor and report on capital expenditure to department
  • The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description.
